Message from Scouting America

Scouting America is discontinuing its national STEM Nova and Super Nova Awards program. Our council will continue to create and administer its own STEM award programs. This change took effect on June 1, 2025. With this change, NOVA and SuperNOVA counselors and awards will no longer be added to ScoutBook. In the fall, our council’s STEM committee will provide more information on the initiatives we will undertake to continue STEM education in the Cradle of Liberty. Visit scoutingphilly.org/STEM for updated information in the fall of 2025.

STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

These disciplines are considered by many to be the foundation of an advanced society.  In many forums — including political, governmental, and academic — the strength of the STEM workforce is viewed as an indicator of a nation’s ability to sustain itself.

We have taken on STEM to encourage the natural curiosity of youth members and their sense of wonder about these fields through existing programs. From archery to welding, Scouts can’t help but enjoy the wide range of STEM-related activities.
