Unit and Individual Membership Renewal

Currently unit renewal and member renewal are still separate.
This will be the last renewal season to be separate as the national organization transitions to a common renewal date.
The renewal processes are currently the same as last year.

Important Updates for 2026-2027

  • Transition to a common renewal date of February for all units and members. (First common renewal will be February 2028.)
  • Unit renewal and member renewal will become one process again. Members will still have the option to renew themselves if desired.
  • Elimination of the lapse period! October is the last month to have a 2 month lapse. November will have 1 month. And December 2026 moving forward will not have a lapse period.
  • Due to the lapse period being eliminated, when someone does not renew by their expiration, they will immediately drop and lose access to any tools.
  • Review the timeline below. The proration process does not start for units, new members and renewing members all at the same time. Refer to this timeline to know what is happening and when.

Notes About Changes:

  • National registration fees will most likely be increasing effective January 1, 2027. As soon as we receive confirmation, we will post the new fees and proration schedule. Units renewing for 2027 should do so prior to the end of the year to avoid paying the increased fees. There is no lapse period effective December 2026, so any units not renewed prior to the end of December will drop effective January 1.
  • For the 2027 unit renewal, units will be renewed for 14 months to extend the expire date to the end February 2028. The rate is $8.50 per month, so the total unit renewal fee will be $119 as long as the unit renews for 2027 prior to the end of 2026).
  • Units must complete their online renewal submission and payment directly to national no later than December 15, 2026 to allow for council approval by the end of December.
  • Any renewal (unit or individual) completed after 12/31/26 will pay the increased 2027 fees.
  • NO change to individual membership renewals through the end of the year.
  • We will communicate changes to the 2027 individual new and renewal process as details become available.
  • Military youth renewal must be completed online by the parent to qualify for the waived national fee.

The Service Center and Scout Shop will be closed on Monday Sept 7th in observance of Labor Day.
